SALEM—Oregon House Speaker Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) applauded his colleagues in the House for adopting rules Monday that set strict limits on gifts to legislators. Oregon State Police are asking the public for their help in locating and prosecuting the person or persons responsible for the illegal killing of three elk, a cow and two calves, in the Terrebonne area on January 4. Troopers were called to 6800 N. Two more pedestrians were injured when hit by vehicles in Bend on Tuesday, bringing the total to three pedestrian vs. auto collisions in the city in less than 24 hours.  A Bend man was killed Monday when struck on S. A Bend motorcyclist was injured Monday afternoon when he ran a red light and crashed into a car in northeast Bend, said police. Bend Police officers and fire paramedics rushed to the intersection of NE Third Street and Revere Avenue in response to a report of an injury motor vehicle crash involving a motorcyclist, said Sgt. Federal law enforcement officers want the public’s help in prosecuting those responsible for cutting off the tops of about 50 trees on the Deschutes National Forest about four miles south of Sisters.   “This was a selfish act at the public’s expense,” Perl said. The Bend-La Pine School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to allow staff to finalize design specifications and develop bid documents for the permanent repair of the Summit High School playing fields. Four labor organizations representing over 6,000 workers in Central Oregon are supporting the efforts of Bend Area Transit (BAT) bus drivers and dispatchers to win union representation with Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Division 757.
