SALEM – A California man was arrested and charged with trafficking in prescription pills Friday when he was nabbed on an Amtrak train near Salem, Oregon, as he allegedly transported almost 1,800 Oxycontin tablets from Modesto enroute to Seattle. Heavy snow, strong winds and temperatures near 10-degrees prohibited rescue team members from searching for two climbers who failed to return from a Mount Hood excursion on Monday afternoon, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office reported. The Salem Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in their investigation of the theft of 20 very distinctive steel shelving units from a local business. The shelving units, approximately eight feet in length, painted bright orange and of considerable weight, were taken from the fenced yard of an industrial business in southeast Salem, Oregon.
