OSAA Announces 2006 Fall Sports Academic All-State Teams
Several Bend-La Pine Schools’ high school athletic teams have been recognized for their outstanding academic achievement in today’s Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) Fall Academic All-State award announcement. From Bend and Summit High’s football, cross country, and soccer teams, their grade point averages (GPA) ranged from 3.15 to 3.83.The teams included in the Fall 2006 Top 10 are:

A 58-year old Sisters man was arrested Friday after a multi-agency investigation obtained information that he wanted to murder a Bend police officer, said authorities.
Daniel Eugene Burdick, DCJ Photo Daniel Eugene Burdick was arrested without incident on charges of attempted aggravated murder and second-degree attempted delivery of a controlled substance. The arrest occurred at the Sisters City Campground about 6:20 p.m. October 27.

Deschutes County Mental Health Department’s Rainbow Clubhouse program is now selling gift certificates for holiday presents. Money raised through gift certificate sales will be used to support Rainbow Clubhouse program services, and can also be purchased by cash or check to benefit the local homeless shelter, Bethlehem Inn.

At Monday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Barbara Haslinger released Garry Harding, the 43-year old Bend man accused of exposing himself at the drive-through windows of at least five different coffee shops and fast food restaurants throughout Bend in August of this year.

Deschutes County Sheriff Les Stiles on Monday released the results of an internal review of the officer-involved shooting of Devon Linville on September 15. Earlier, on October 6 District Attorney Michael Dugan announced the Deschutes County Grand Jury determined that the use of deadly physical force was justifiable under Oregon law.

“There’s a new group of teens hanging around downtown, but these kids are carrying brooms, not skateboards,” said Chuck Arnold, president of the Bend Downtowners Association. Arnold announced Monday that the Economic Improvement District (EID) has partnered with Chamberlain House to employ students a few days a week to help keep downtown Bend clean.
