A 19-year old Washington woman, 5-months pregnant, was killed in a traffic accident on Highway 97 south of Bend Tuesday morning when her small car veered into the oncoming path of a semi-truck and trailer hauling a load of apples.
Jessica Lynn Shadle of Omak, Washington died at the scene of the 10:25 a.m. accident near Wickiup Junction at milepost 166 on Highway 97 north of La Pine.

An 18-year old Sisters man was cited for careless driving and two people were sent to the hospital after an oncoming sports utility vehicle attempted to turn in front of his car, which was traveling without headlights on Highway 20 near Barclay Drive in Sisters on Monday evening.

A disease outbreak investigation by Oregon state and Marion County public health officials has led to a multi-state recall of thousands of pounds of frozen oysters, officials at the Oregon Department of Human Services Public Health Division said today.
The recall, announced today by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, covers a large lot of frozen oysters on the half-shell imported from Korea.

The Department of Solid Waste in Deschutes County, with participation and assistance by Deschutes Recycling, will be offering county residents free Christmas tree disposal services this season.
Residents are invited to take their trees to Knott Landfill at 61000 SE 27th Street in Bend for disposal. The trees will be recycled free of charge from Tuesday, December 26 through Monday, January 31 between the hours of 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
