The Clackamas County Sheriff’s office reported this afternoon that the three climbers, missing since Sunday when they tumbled over a ledge on Mt. Hood, have been safely rescued from the mountain. An improperly discarded cigarette sparked a small fire in a northwest Bend residence Sunday night, prompting a reminder from Bend Fire Battalion Chief Bill Boos to ensure proper disposal of any burning materials. Search and rescue personnel are confident they have identified the exact location of three climbers who fell off a 150-foot ledge near Illumination Saddle on Mt. A 13-year old Eugene-area boy died Saturday afternoon in a skiing accident at Willamette Pass Resort ski area, Oregon State Police (OSP) reported. Alcohol and icy road conditions may have contributed to a single-vehicle crash and rollover on South Century Drive that left the 18-year old driver dead and sent five others to the hospital early Saturday morning, authorities reported. A 43-year old Bend man who accidentally shot himself in the hip Saturday morning prompted gun-safety reminders by Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies.
