ARIES (March 21 - April 19): In a new or unfamiliar situation, it might be necessary to defend your ideas or opinions. Gather your thoughts and come out fighting.

Looking out for No. 1, Julianna Margulies made it known through a network of agents that she was ready and willing to work, but any involvement with a dramatic television series would be limited to a cable-TV project only calling for a dozen or so episodes per season.

During a recent trip to China, I visited a sports school in Beijing where specially selected children, some as young as 5 or 6, live and train away from their families.
At the end of each dormitory hallway is a large board with room numbers and colored flags next to them - the results of weekly checks for cleanliness, a teacher informed me.
"This must be a pretty messy room," I joked, pointing to a ... [full story] 1525 times read - No comment posted

As the "grand" experiment in early primaries rolls on toward Pennsylvania, it is time for the nation's political parties to reassess the value of this radical change in American elections.
In my opinion, early primaries create more confusion than clarity for the scrutiny of presidential candidates.
The early primaries have succeeded in only one category. They have brought out increased turnouts in Democratic elections and have gained interest among young people. Most of that, however, ... [full story] 1123 times read - No comment posted

In Philadelphia, with the eyes of a nation upon him, Sen. Barack Obama gave a great speech recently. In the tradition of Jefferson, Lincoln and King he spoke to the heart of this country. He made us listen.
Many of us hoped that this historic presidential election, with the first truly viable woman candidate and black candidate, would not deteriorate into another ugly street fight over race. But, I suppose it was inevitable, especially given ... [full story] 1552 times read - No comment posted

The indignation of Americans is growing rapidly about the U.S. Air Force granting a French company a $35 billion tanker-aircraft contract that could eventually grow to $100 billion and is estimated to create 100,000 jobs in Europe. French government subsidies are one of the factors that enabled the lucky company, EADS N.V., to underbid Boeing.

It's 70 years since Nazi Germany invaded Czechoslovakia - for some reason expecting the Czech populace to be grateful. A cartoonist of that era depicted Adolf Hitler motoring into downtown Prague, the ever-faithful Joseph Goebbels at his side.
"Surely mein Fuehrer is pleased that the people throw flowers to us," Goebbels gurgles.
"Ja," Hitler replies. "And even more pleased if the flowers were first removed from their pots!"
Times change, and today's would-be conquerors may ... [full story] 975 times read - No comment posted

It's probably too early in the year to brand a film the most anything of 2008.
But "Snow Angels," based on the book by Stewart O'Nan and written and directed by David Gordon Green, gets a head start in the race for most depressing movie of the year. This, or any year.

In "Flawless," a pair of amateur crooks tries to snaffle a fortune by raiding an obscenely rich British institution. So far, so familiar. But near the film's unthrilling climax, we finally see something new: a 70-something janitor (Michael Caine) chasing a 40-something executive (Demi Moore) through London's sewers.

Its title sounds like an open invitation for a "more excruciating than root canal" joke.
But no need to grasp for cheap laughs, even if that's what "Drillbit Taylor" spends a good chunk of its 102 minutes doing. If anything, the movie - in which a parade of people gets their teeth knocked in - is more likely to make your molars ache with a case of the cutes.
