TRENTON, N.J. - A longtime New Jersey state senator has been charged with using his political clout to get a no-show job at the state medical school. Today, the Oregon State Senate overwhelmingly approved Senate Bill 118, commonly referred to as the “anti-price gouging bill.” Senate Bill 118, sponsored by Attorney General Hardy Myers, prohibits retailers and contractors from setting excessively high prices for certain essential goods and services in times of an emergency or abnormal market disruption. The Department of Justice receives numerous complaints at times of emergencies in which consumers have difficulty buying necessary items, such as electrical fans during ... [full story]

In the Phillips family, handed down from father to son like a gold watch or a wall hanging reading "Home Sweet Home" was the 3-4 defense. It was Wade Phillips' legacy from his father, Bum. Bum, why, he used to say he didn't know about anything but cold beer and barbecued ribs, but he was just funnin'. CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. - The blood on John Duke's right knee, courtesy of a nasty trail fall, had long ago coagulated. A maroon scab already was forming. Entering his 13th season at UCLA, 50-year-old John Wooden never had won an NCAA tournament game. His last three teams had finished 16-10, 16-9 and 14-12, by far his worst stretch as a coach. His program seemed to be getting worse, not better. Wizard of Westwood? Hardly. Had 1960 been 2007, one only can imagine how many Web sites would have been dedicated to getting the aging, out-of-touch loser fired. In his eighth season as ... [full story]
