A 72-year old Stayton man, employed by Freres Lumber Company for more than 50 years, died Thursday from injuries he sustained when he was crushed by a reversing logging truck, Marion County Sheriff’s deputies reported. MOSCOW - Two leading Russian officials say military action against Iran should be ruled out. Konstantin Kosachev, chairman of the State Duma International Affairs Committee, met Friday to discuss Iran with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak, Novosti reported. SAN DIEGO - After two months of protest spearheaded in part by a longtime San Diego activist, PBS announced Wednesday that filmmaker Ken Burns' upcoming seven-part documentary on World War II will be amended to include Latinos. ABERDEEN, England - Hope was running out Friday for five crewman missing from an oil rig vessel that capsized in the North Sea off the coast of Scotland's Shetland Isles. Sky News reported that a 15-year-old boy and his father were believed to be among the missing crew. BRUSSELS - The chairman of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee is expressing skepticism about the chance of overturning a controversial online gambling law. Rep. MEMPHIS - A series of close calls at Memphis International Airport has reportedly sparked an internal battle within the Federal Aviation Administration. FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown refuses to comment on a dispute between the agency's air traffic division and its independent investigative arm, USA Today reports. CARACAS, Venezuela - Cuban leader Fidel Castro is almost "completely recovered" from an illness that required surgery last July, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Friday. Chavez told reporters in Caracas, Venezuela, that a reliable source assured him Castro is nearly ready to resume his full workload, Globovision TV reported. WASHINGTON - The White House planned to fire all 93 U.S. attorneys to provide political cover for firing a smaller group of prosecutors, National Public Radio said Friday. Citing a source who has "had conversations with White House officials," NPR said the plan originated with White House political adviser Karl Rove.
