Marion County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Salem man Monday morning, charging him with rape and other sex-related offenses in connection with interactions with a 12-year-old Dayton, Oregon girl.

HOMER, Alaska - A man and his wife in Homer, Alaska, have a new respect for grizzly bears after witnessing one killing and feeding on a large moose in their driveway.
Gary and Terri Lyon told the Homer News they were awakened to the sound of deep growling early Sunday morning, and first thought it was their dog.

FRESNO, Calif. - A 19-year-old California State University student was in custody in Fresno Wednesday, charged with shooting three men and killing one in a video game dispute.
Criminology major Jonquel Brooks, 19, was being held in lieu of $3 million bail, charged with the shooting death of Brant Daniels, also 19. NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - A man died after falling on his head during a Connecticut parking lot "battle dance."
Police said the death of Robert Stitt, 48, appeared to be alcohol-related and accidental, the Hartford Courant reported.
"He was a pretty good dancer. Back in the day he used to do flips," John Boxley, a friend of Stitt's who witnessed Monday's accident, told the Courant.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three weeks before the start of the North Atlantic hurricane season, subtropical storm Andrea was named Wednesday off the Florida and Georgia coasts.
The National Weather Service in Jacksonville, Fla., said at 11 a.m., Andrea was 140 miles northeast of Daytona Beach, Fla., moving to the west at 3 mph. Andrea had sustained winds near 45 mph, and no strengthening was forecast in the next 24 hours.

NASHVILLE - Tennessee prison officials executed a man early Wednesday convicted 25 years ago of killing a Nashville police officer during a botched restaurant robbery.
Philip Workman, 53, was given a lethal injection at Nashville's Riverbend prison over a 17-minute period while strapped to a gurney, the Nashville Tennessean reported.
His final words were brief prayers as Warden Ricky Bell stood at the head of the gurney.
