A 71-year old Crescent, Oregon driver was injured when he pulled out in front of a pickup towing a ski boat in southeast Bend last evening, deputies reported. According to Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputy Sgt. Vance Lawrence, the accident occurred just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Ward Road and Bear Creek Road. No injuries were reported when a gun fired as a sales clerk grabbed at the firearm held by a robber who was holding up a fireworks stand in northeast Bend last evening, police reported. ARLINGTON, Texas -- Firefighters in northern Texas snatched two children from a fast-moving creek as the region was drenched by fierce storms and flooding. A 14-year-old boy and his 10-year-old sister were playing in the creek behind their Arlington home when a storm moved in Monday afternoon, reported the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. KANO, Nigeria -- Two major tobacco companies are being sued by four Nigerian states for allegedly targeting children as sales in Western countries decline. The first case against British American Tobacco and Philip Morris began hearings in May in Lagos. CHICAGO -- Illinois officials have announced a $10.5 million program to screen the state's National Guard troops for brain injuries sustained in Iraq or Afghanistan.
