Tenants of a northeast Bend 4-plex arrived home early Friday evening after running an errand to find the cooking pot they had left unattended on their kitchen stove had caught fire, causing an estimated $15,500 in damage.
Upon their return, the occupants discovered the pot had caught fire igniting the stove, cabinets and sheetrock. They were able to extinguish the fire and left the premises.

The motorcyclist who lost his life in an accident involving a deer on Cascade Lakes Highway August 9th has been identified as Friedhelm Andresen of Negernbotel, Germany. According to a news release from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Andresen’s family was notified with the assistance of the German Consulate.
Andresen struck a deer and was killed on Cascade Lakes Highway near Wickiup Reservoir, milepost 56, just before 10 a.m. August 9.

The Lake George Fire advanced approximately 50 acres yesterday and continues to burn approximately 13 miles west of Sisters in the Mt. Washington Wilderness on the Deschutes National Forest. The fire was estimated to be only 5 percent contained as of 8 a.m. Saturday August 12.
Authorities credit slightly moderate fire weather and aggressive use of aerial retardant and ground-based firefighting for the relatively small growth in size yesterday.
