Three of eleven individuals in a Bend home where Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) Team members executed a search warrant Thursday afternoon were arrested on various charges, and charges are pending for a fourth. Stolen property and evidence of the manufacture of methamphetamine were found and seized, according to authorities.

A Bend man on release status for a prior drug charge was arrested Thursday evening in the parking lot of a Bend grocery store when authorities received information that he was planning to sell one-quarter ounce of methamphetamine.

A double-wide manufactured home was completely destroyed by fire late Thursday night, but the occupants were awakened by the hissing of a medical oxygen tube near the bed and were able to escape safely, officials said.

A small fire that caused only $50 in damage to the Bend Shilo Inn Wednesday was caused by the spontaneous combustion of grease and oily rags, said Battalion Chief Bill Boos of the Bend Fire Department.

Oregon public health officials have joined those in at least eight other states in investigating an outbreak of E. coli O157, a foodborne illness that has been identified in at least five people across Oregon.
Epidemiologists in the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) and in Wisconsin have traced the illness to packaged, washed spinach, although they so far have been unable to identify whether the contamination is confined to a single brand.

The KIDS Center and Darkness to Light community partners have trained over 800 professionals and community members to assist in the effort to prevent child abuse.
