New Jetta GLI Combines Power, Practicality
by NewsUSA

The 2006 cars will be arriving at your local dealer soon. If you're in the market for a car, you probably want one that's safe, powerful and fun to drive. The 2006 Volkswagen GLI fits the bill on all counts.

With gas prices as high as they are, fuel economy is an important consideration - even in a high- performance vehicle. The GLI

averages 32 miles per gallon on the freeway and 24 in the city. Additionally, the GLI is a distinctive and sporty car that includes features such as an aggressive black grille, stylish alloy wheels and a performance interior package.

The 2006 GLI has additional occupant space, legroom and trunk space, making it a good family car. It also provides an array of safety features such as:

* three-point safety belts for each seat;

* a rear latch system for child seat positioning and restraint;

* crash-optimized body panels;

* six standard airbags;

* an optional side airbag system for rear passengers.

These safety features combined to make the 2006 GLI a "best pick" in its class for side impact crash tests by the International Institute of Highway Safety. In addition, all Volkswagen vehicles receive 24-hour roadside assistance for four years - mileage is unlimited.

So, how does it perform? The 2006 GLI is designed to be more aggressive and powerful than its predecessors. It has a standard sport suspension and a turbocharged four-cylinder engine capable of producing 200 horsepower at 5500 to 6000 rpm. The transmission incorporates a twin-clutch wet plate design that allows you to shift gears without interrupting the power. Add direct injection to increase power and what you've got is a performance machine.

There are also some fun options with the new GLI. One option package provides a sunroof and a choice of XM or Sirius satellite radio. Another package offers climate control, front sport seats, heated seats and windshield washer nozzles.

The sporty new GLI excels as an affordable, economical performance vehicle, with some good extras. In this model, Volkswagen has maintained and improved all the features that make the

Jetta such a popular car.
