Cascade Healthcare Community adds two board members
by Bend Weekly News Sources

In an effort to represent the growing and changing needs of the Central Oregon community, the board of directors for Cascade Healthcare Community (CHC), parent company for St. Charles Bend and St. Charles Redmond and their affiliated services, has elected two new members to help lead and shape the future of the organization.

Orthopedic surgeon, Knute Buehler, MD, has devoted more than 10 years to caring for the Bend and Redmond communities.  As a current member of the hospital's medical staff, a long-time advisor to the CHC board, and a three-year member of the board of directors for the St. Charles Foundation, he brings a wealth of history, knowledge, and expertise to the organization's governing body.

"A strong and vibrant CHC is essential to maintaining the overall high quality of care within Central Oregon's medical community," said Buehler. "I'm looking forward to contributing to the physician perspective and helping further the success of the organization."

Lauri J. Miller, a 20-year Bend resident and 19-year employee of Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond, has an intimate understanding of the two St. Charles hospitals from a patient, visitor, and community perspective.  Having also served as a certified public accountant, a member of the Deschutes County Budget Committee, and a long-standing community volunteer, she brings significant financial and community knowledge to the CHC board.

"I have been looking forward to becoming involved with the community in a meaningful way after retiring from Eagle Crest and transitioning from my other board obligations," said Miller. "The size and complexity of CHC interests me and I know that it plays a large part in the economic vitality and livability of Central Oregon."

"Our role in selecting and appointing new board members is to ensure that we have a balance of expertise and community representation that will strengthen our organization," said Spike Biggers, CHC Board Chair.  "Knute and Lauri each bring a unique and important perspective to Cascade Healthcare Community and our health system."

Other board transitions include the departure of Stan Shepardson, MD, who served as a member for the past nine years and the resignation of Jim Lussier, former President-Emeritus and past CEO, who will continue his focus on his healthcare advocacy and independent consulting.

The CHC board consists of 11 elected directors and includes at least 2 members of the hospital medical staff, as well as the President/CEO.
