Cascade Healthcare Community Names Joe Smith Interim Executive Vice President
by Bend Weekly News Sources

Joe Smith has been named interim Executive Vice President for Cascade Healthcare Community, the parent organization of St. Charles Medical Center – Bend and St. Charles Medical Center — Redmond.  CHC president and CEO Jim Diegel made the announcement Thursday, August 3.  Smith will fill the role until a permanent EVP is recruited.  That recruitment is currently underway and the goal is to have a permanent EVP in place by the end of the year.

Smith has more than two decades of experience as a healthcare executive and has been working with Cascade Healthcare Community in an advisory role since April 2006.

Executive Vice President is a new role at CHC.  The position is accountable for the majority of the organization’s operations.  The Executive Vice President is charged with driving high performance execution of the strategies defined by the CHC Board of Directors.  The new position allows the CEO to focus his energies on external and regional activities.

“CHC is in a unique position with tremendous opportunities,” explained Diegel.  “Capitalizing on those opportunities requires me to focus on the priorities of the Chief Executive. Our immediate and long-term success depends on the timely and careful execution of our strategies in a highly organized and intentional way through focused attention by the Executive Vice President. Under Joe’s leadership, the organization’s energy and focus can be directed toward outcomes that we need to achieve while we work to fill the position.” Bend, Oregon
