Charges against teen possible in death of driver
by Cheryl McDermott

Prineville man killed in crash at “Y” intersection of Hwy. 126, Hwy. 26 West

A 42-year old Prineville man died early Friday morning from injuries he sustained when his vehicle was hit by a car driven by a teenager who allegedly disobeyed a traffic control device. The victim’s SUV rolled several times and he was ejected, police reported.

Prineville Police Chief Eric bush said officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 126 and Highway 26 West, an area commonly called the “Y”, about 6:45 a.m. on November 2.

Preliminary investigation suggests that a 1997 Saturn driven by a 17-year-old boy “failed to obey a traffic control device,” Bush said. The car crashed into a 1993 Toyota 4-Runner driven by Jeffery Allan Lackey of Prineville.  The SUV rolled several times and the driver was ejected.

Lackey was transported by ground ambulance to Pioneer Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The other driver was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and released, the chief said.

The investigation is continuing and charges against the teen are possible, although Bush declined to say what the charges may be. “A charging decision will most likely be made by the District Attorney after the investigation is completed,” he said.

  • Why wouldn't they charge her? Had this been an adult, he or she would have certainly been charged. They should charge her with reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter.
