O’Neil Highway crash eerily similar to rollover 3 days earlier
by Cheryl McDermott

A 26-year old woman was involved in a rollover crash Saturday with circumstances eerily similar to a crash that occurred just a few miles away on O’Neil Highway only three days prior, deputies reported.

Alexia May Meyer of Prineville was traveling east on O’Neil Highway near milepost 5.1 when she lost control of her vehicle as it rounded a curve shortly after 3 p.m., November 24, Crook County Sheriff’s deputy Sgt. Jim Chapman said.

Meyer told deputies when she lost control, the right front tire of her 1998 Volvo sedan drifted onto the highway’s soft shoulder and she overcorrected.  The vehicle rolled at least twice and came to rest in a field on the south side of the highway, Chapman said.

Meyer was not injured, although the O’Neil Junction sign and possibly a nearby telephone junction box were damaged.  Noo citations were issued, the sergeant said.

The circumstances of Meyer’s accident were eerily similar to those of a crash near milepost 11.3 on November 21, when 20-year old Richard Burdick of Prineville lost control on a curve, veered onto the gravel shoulder, rolled his vehicle at least twice, and landed upside down in a field. Burdick was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Prineville with unknown injuries, Chapman said.
