BEND, Ore. -- Members of the Oregon State Police Bend Area Command are conducting a compliance sweep of local sex offenders in the Deschutes County area where a total of 581 registered sex offenders reportedly reside. Of those 581 offenders, 45 were determined to be out of compliance with mandatory state registration requirements.
The compliance sweep kicked off Friday, February 29, and is expected to continue through the middle of March.
Of the 45 offenders listed as out of compliance to date, 16 were found to have active arrest warrants already issued by the courts, seven were found to be in custody, and a total of 22 offenders are currently being investigated for charges relating to failing to register.
As a result of ongoing investigations related to the 45 “out of compliance” offenders, an estimated 93 counts of the criminal charge of fail to register as a sex offender (ORS 181.595, 181.596, 181.597) have been identified.
OSP currently operates and maintains a reporting database for the state's registered sex offenders. A list of offenders -- both on and off supervision -- can be obtained by calling OSP at (503) 378-3725, ext. 44429.
A list request can be requested by e-mail. The requestor will need to provide a name, mailing address and the city of zip code for which they seek list information. Most requests are processed within 2-3 days, however, it can take up to one week depending on circumstances.
