REDMOND, Ore. – A 34-year old La Pine man was flown by air ambulance to the hospital Saturday afternoon with reportedly “severe” injuries following a two-vehicle crash in northwest Redmond, deputies reported.
According to a news release prepared by Deschutes County Sheriff’s Sgt. Gary Cima, deputies and Redmond Fire personnel and paramedics responded to the intersection of Northwest Way and NW Coyner just before 6 p.m., May 10.
While he stated that “both vehicles were off the roadway to the northwest of the intersection, in a pasture,” Cima revealed few details, citing an ongoing investigation.
The two involved vehicles were a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer and a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, he said.
One driver, later identified by Lt. Deron McMaster as 34-year old Joseph Atkinson of La Pine, sustained reportedly “severe” injuries and was extricated from his vehicle by fire personnel before being flown to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Atkinson’s identity was initially withheld pending notification of his family, Cima said.
The other driver was stabilized by a deputy, treated on scene by paramedics, and then released, the news release stated.
“No citations have been issued at this time and the crash is still under investigation, said the sergeant.
