Parr Lumber to close Redmond, Madras lumberyards
by Bend Weekly News Sources

The Parr Company announced this week the results of a company efficiency review aimed at measuring the effectiveness of each store location. The results of this review recommend the closing of three retail lumberyard locations in Madras and Redmond, Oregon and Woodland, Washington.

Parr Lumber in Madras and Redmond, Oregon will close for business on March 16, 2009. Parr will continue to provide products and services to customers of Central Oregon through their Bend, Prineville, Burns and Klamath Falls locations. Parr Lumber in Woodland, Washington will close April 10, 2009. Parr Lumber will continue to provide products and services to customers throughout SW Washington through their Vancouver and Ridgefield locations.

As the building and contractor segment has slowed during the past twelve months the retail component of the companies business has become more important. The three stores that will be closed were unable to gain the retail traffic necessary to sustain them.

“Our economy has forced all businesses to look at their operating models to review efficiency. We found that we can service our valued customers in these key markets without the costs associated with a traditional retail storefront,” said David Hamill, CEO of Parr Lumber.

Parr Lumber has built a strong financial foundation based on the guiding principal of avoiding debt. During the prosperous times of the recent building boom the company continually resisted taking on unnecessary debt. “We have built a strong foundation that is built on the guiding principals of the founding family principals. In good times and in tougher times we have strived to size our companies operation to fit that of the market. We will continue to support our valued customers and as always the welfare of our team members and their families continue to be a top priority,” added Hamill.

The Parr Company consists of six distinct companies providing building solutions and services: Parr Lumber Company, Parr Cabinet Outlet, Cascade Wholesale Hardware, NSC, NSCi and Parr Marketing Group.
