Redmond man arrested in theft of four ATVs advertised on craigslist
by Cheryl McDermott

A 20-year old Redmond man was arrested Tuesday morning in the theft of four all terrain vehicles (ATVs) and a trailer valued at almost $29,000.  Deputies were alerted to the situation when a resident discovered the property, allegedly purchased with a bad check, listed for sale on the popular web site craigslist.org.

Eric Brandon Saub was taken into custody about 8:30 a.m., said Sgt. Kevin Dizney.  An investigation by Deschutes County Sheriff’s detectives confirmed that the ATVs , reported stolen in late December, had been purchased with a bad check for $28, 996 at Mt. Hood Polaris in Boring, Oregon and were now at the suspect’s northwest Redmond home.   Saub allegedly told the ATV dealership that he needed the Polaris Sportsman 500 EFIs for a ranch in eastern Oregon.

Detectives executed a search warrant at 1619 NW Hemlock Avenue and in addition to the ATVs, found a stolen Haulmark trailer and several instruments of forgery capable of producing fraudulent checks, Sgt. Dizney said.  The trailer -- valued at $8,600 -- was reported stolen to the Albany Police Department on January 8.

Saub was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail in lieu of $172,500 bail, and was charged with seven counts each for first-degree forgery, negotiating a bad check, identity theft, and computer crime.  He also faces four counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, two counts of first-degree aggravated theft, and single charges of criminal possession of a forged instrument and criminal possession of a forgery device.

Anyone who has conducted by financial business with Saub, or who may have information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Detective Mike Biondi at 312-6401.
