Terrebonne photograph graces cover of new Oregon Blue Book
by Bend Weekly News Sources

(Salem) – Secretary of State Bill Bradbury announced today that the 2007-08 Oregon Blue Book will be released on Wednesday, March 21. Secretary Bradbury will honor the amateur photographers who won the contest for the book’s cover at a morning event in his office, to be followed by a book signing at the Capitol Gift Shop from noon to 1:00 p.m.

“The Oregon Blue Book is really a unique publication – and one that I’m proud to be part of,” said Secretary Bradbury. “The beauty of the cover photographs reminds us all how lucky we are to call Oregon home.”

Jim Gardner of Terrebonne won the Blue Book front cover photo competition this year. His winning photograph, “Cattails at Sunset over Teal Lake” was taken at Ranch at the Canyons in Terrebonne. The back cover photograph was taken by Katarina “Kat” Sutphin of Ontario. It features an Oregon bobcat in a Malheur County tree.

The book is dedicated to “all the brave Oregonians who put themselves in harm’s way in service to our state and our country,” including National Guard and Reserve and our military, “…for their unwavering support of America and Oregon.”

The biennial state publication is the official state directory and fact book featuring information about all levels of state government. It contains listings and functional descriptions of government agencies and educational institutions. The book highlights a wealth of Oregon’s cultural resources, including a new color exhibit on Depression Era public works projects throughout the state, including the State Library.

The companion website of the online Blue Book contains over 2,500 web pages and can be found at: http://bluebook.state.or.us/. The online version has an expanded section of tools for children that engage them in learning about Oregon and is designed to be useful to both students and teachers.

The 2007-08 Blue Book costs $18 and is available for sale at bookstores throughout the state. It may also be ordered online, by telephone to (503) 986-2234, or by writing to: Bill Bradbury, Secretary of State, Attention 2007-08 Oregon Blue Book, 255 Capitol Street NE, Suite 180 Salem, OR 97310.
