Redmond selects new Police Chief
by Bend Weekly News Sources

In a news conference held Tuesday afternoon, the City of Redmond announced they have selected Ron Roberts of Eugene as the city’s new Police Chief.

Since September of 2006 when Chief Lane Roberts (no relation) announced his resignation to lead Deschutes County 911 operations, the city has undergone an extensive search to find a new police chief.

Roberts currently commands the Special Investigations section of the Eugene Police Department. In this capacity he oversees the Criminal Intelligence and Vice Narcotics units. Lieutenant Roberts has over twenty years of law enforcement service with a broad array of experience, including seven years as a lieutenant. Ron has served as the divisional commander of the Investigation Division and sergeant and detective in the Violent Crimes unit. Assignments include Administrative Support Lieutenant, Patrol Commander, Community Policing Services Lieutenant, and Special Weapons and Tactics Officer.

Lieutenant Roberts played an integral role in developing and securing support for two public safety stations, crime prevention programs such as the Graffiti Task Force and Property Crimes and Methamphetamine Task Forces.

Redmond’s new police chief has a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, and is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute and the Drug Enforcement Agency's Drug Commander School.

He is married, has five grown children and a seventeen-year-old daughter at home.

In a news release, the city hailed Roberts’ hiring, stating “Chief Ron Roberts brings the right mix of experience and energy that the City of Redmond needs as it continues to experience dynamic growth. He follows in the footsteps of former Chief Lane Roberts and Interim Chief Jim Soules.”
