Shortly after 4 p.m. April 23, Crook County Sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers responded to space # 7 of the Lakeshore RV Park at 12333 N.E. Ochoco Highway in Prineville to a report of menacing. As they were enroute, officers learned the suspects were leaving the scene in a blue Ford Thunderbird, Detective Sgt. Travis Jurgens wrote in a news release.
The vehicle was located on Highway 26, and a “high risk vehicle stop” was performed, Jurgens said. The car’s occupants, Benjamin Hibbits and Jesse Snyder, both 20-year old Prineville residents, were cited for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.
Jurgens said that further investigation into the original menacing call prompted officers to obtain a search warrant, executed at three separate locations in the Prineville area.
During the searches, deputies found and seized over one-half pound of marijuana, a stolen firearm, a short barreled firearm, and several items of drug paraphernalia.
A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of 55-year old Alan Lane Nevel. Taken into custody and lodged in the Crook County Jail, he is charged with possession and manufacture of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property, possession of a short-barreled firearm, first-degree theft, menacing, and fourth-degree assault. Bail was set at $77,500, Sgt. Jurgens said.
Deputies from Crook County Sheriff’s Office were assisted in their investigation by the OSP, the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team, and Prineville Police.
