Suspected meth dealer arrested in Redmond
by Cheryl McDermott

As part of an ongoing narcotics investigation involving a 37-year old Redman man, law enforcement officers with a Street Crimes Unit seized evidence during a search of the suspect’s vehicle and residence Wednesday evening, which ultimately led to the arrest of Gary Kenneth Schaupp on charges related to selling methamphetamine.

Street Crimes Unit (SCU) members, comprised of Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies and Redmond Police Officers, developed information during their investigation sufficient to obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s vehicle and residence at 2160 SW Canyon Drive, Sgt. Mike Espinoza with Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office reported.

SCU made a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle about 6:30 p.m. April 25, and officers assisted by narcotics K-9 dog Abby searched it and the Canyon Drive location, locating and seizing an estimated one ounce of meth, weight scales, packaging materials, cutting agents, and drug records, Espinoza said.

“At this time Schaupp is the only person arrested during the investigation,” said the sergeant.  He was taken into custody and lodged in the Deschutes Jail, and is charged with possession, distribution, and manufacture of a schedule-II controlled substance (methamphetamine).

An investigation into the suspect’s involvement in meth sales in the Redmond area is continuing, Sgt. Espinoza said, and SCU encourages anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 504.3438.
