A 19-year-old Prineville driver was unable to avoid striking a boy who rode his bicycle into the street Tuesday evening, sending the child to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police reported.
Prineville Police responded to the accident at 405 SE Lynn Boulevard in Prineville about 6:50 p.m., May 8, Chief Eric Bush said.
Investigation determined that the 12-year-old boy rode his bicycle into the street from Dunaway Trailer Park, and Cody Kieran Bedortha struck him while driving a ¾-ton pickup west on SE Lynn Boulevard.
The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Pioneer Memorial Hospital.
Chief Bush said an unopened bottle of liquor was found in Bedortha’s pickup, and the 19-year-old was cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol.
“Despite this, alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the accident,” Bush said, adding that no citations were issued as a result of the incident.
