Teen held in hit-and-run, attempted murder
by Cheryl McDermott

A 16-year-old Redmond, Oregon girl was arrested Wednesday for attempted murder and hit-and-run after she allegedly ran down a man with whom she earlier had been involved in a domestic dispute, police reported.

According to a news release, about 5:45 p.m. on October 17, Redmond Police were called to SW Timber Avenue and SW 21st Street to the report of a hit-and-run accident.  Upon arrival they found Shawn Lester Kelley, 36, had been struck and injured by a vehicle allegedly driven by the teenager.

Two others in addition to the 16-year-old girl were arrested in connection with the domestic dispute that allegedly transpired prior to the hit-and-run. Shawn Lester Kelley (left), and Shawntyl Cherie Vance (right) - DCJ photos
Kelley was transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Redmond for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation determined that a domestic dispute began at a residence on SW Lava Avenue before the situation progressed to the alleged hit-and-run.

The 16-year-old girl was taken into custody and lodged at the Deschutes County Juvenile Detention facility, where she is charged with attempted murder, failure to perform the duties of a driver in an accident, second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, police said.

Two other arrests were made in connection with the earlier domestic dispute. Kelley, the victim in the alleged hit-and-run, was arrested for fourth-degree assault and first-degree criminal mischief. A 20-year old woman identified as Shawntyl Cherie Vance was also charged with second-degree criminal mischief and providing false information to a police officer.  She was also wanted on an arrest warrant from Multnomah County, the news release stated.
