A 57-year old transient turned himself into Bend Police on Thursday, admitting that he had robbed the Riverview Community Bank in Washougal, Washington earlier this month and had – also on Thursday --aborted a plan to rob a local bank.

Michael Paul Duffy walked into the police department about 6 p.m., November 15, Sgt. Dan Ritchie said, and submitted to an interview where he disclosed information that was verified by Washougal Police detectives. The Washington bank was robbed on November 2 by a man who handed a teller a note demanding money, indicated he had a gun, then fled on foot with the cash. According to earlier reports, no gun was seen.

“Duffy had intended to rob a bank in Bend on November 15, 2007,” the sergeant said, “going as far as preparing a demand note.”  FBI agents are investigating Duffy for possible involvement in other unsolved bank robberies, he added.

A warrant for Duffy’s arrest on a charge of first-degree robbery was issued by the Clark County, Washington prosecutor’s office, and Duffy was lodged at the Deschutes County Jail where he is being held without bail, Ritchie reported.
