United Way of Deschutes County held its annual donor and volunteer appreciation event Thursday, March 9, 2005 at the Bend Golf & Country Club. The group had plenty to celebrate as campaign leaders announced that total pledges currently stands at $1,310,000, $83,000 more than raised in 2005. This is also the first time the United Way of Deschutes County has raised over $1.3 million. The event was sponsored by Bend Memorial Clinic.
"This news is wonderful for our member agencies. Most importantly, we should be proud of our community's generosity. All the personal and corporate contributions added together will help improve the lives of the many individuals, children and families served by our 31 health and human service partner programs," said Volunteer Campaign Chair Craig Smith from Coldwell Banker Morris Real Estate.
The following companies and individuals were honored for their outstanding support:
Outstanding Employee Campaigns: Bank of the Cascades, Deschutes Brewery, Deschutes County, First American Title, LifeWise Health Plans, and Selco Credit Union
Outstanding Corporate Support: Sunriver Resort, Bend Memorial Clinic
Employee Campaign Coordinators: Lisa Smith, City of Bend, Patti Frazier, JC Penney and Kelly MacNeil, The Center
New Campaign: OTAK
Julie Hammond from Sage Insurance was named Campaign Volunteer of the Year for her oustanding work in recruiting loaned executives for the past four years.
"This breakfast is also to recognize and thank the campaign cabinet, loaned executives, board of directors and agency directors for their contributions to the United Way of Deschutes County," said Smith. "We sometimes focus on the amount of money raised when some of the most important gifts to United Way are the time, talent and commitment these people make every year."
The United Way of Deschutes County is still seeking volunteer teams and projects for the 10th annual Day of Caring set for April 28, 2006. If you are interested in participating, please contact Shannon Hinderberger at 389-6507.
