Brothers, 12 & 15, arrested in Tumalo burglary
by Cheryl McDermott

Two brothers, 12- and 15-years old, were arrested Sunday afternoon after an investigation led deputies to believe they were responsible for the theft of jewelry and firearms from their neighbor’s home in the Tumalo area north of Bend.

A stolen gun accidentally discharged during the course of the burglary, one of the suspects told deputies, shooting a hole from the home’s exterior through to an interior wall of a bedroom.

About 3:45 p.m. on November 19, a homeowner of a residence in the 64000 block of Saros Lane reported a burglary.  Jewelry and firearms were stolen, Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputy Lt. Shane Nelson said, and recent damage to the wall caused by a the bullet hole was discovered.

An investigation revealed that two brothers, nearby neighbors, had allegedly entered the home between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. and took items that included jewelry and firearms, Nelson said.  Allegedly stolen property was recovered from the suspects’ home.

Christopher Taylor Ellingsen, 15, and his 12-year-old brother, Samuel Mason Ellingsen were arrested, the lieutenant reported.  The older of the two boys was lodged in the Deschutes County Juvenile Detention facility, and is charged with first-degree burglary and theft, unlawful use of a weapon, and recklessly endangering another person.  The younger boy was cited for first-degree burglary and then released to his father, Nelson said.
