Deschutes County Rodeo is 'Rodeo of the Year' for 5th Time
by Bend Weekly News Sources

For the fifth year in a row, the Deschutes County Fair Rodeo has been awarded "Rodeo of the Year" by the Northwest Professional Rodeo Association (NPRA).  All NPRA rodeos in Oregon, Washington, California and Idaho were considered for the award.

At the recent NPRA Finals held in Klamath Falls, Randy Amis, who co-directs the Deschutes County Fair Rodeo with Mike Tapfer, was named "NPRA Rodeo Director of the Year." Amis will serve for his second year as the Vice President of NPRA.

Sam Willis, a cowboy from Terrebonne, was named "All-Around Cowboy".  B bar D Rodeo Co., out of Culver and owned by Buster Bain and Norm Durfey, was awarded "Stock Contractor of the Year." Durfey was also named "Pickup Man of the Year," and was recognized for his speedy assistance in picking up cowboys from under bucking broncos to prevent them from harm. Bain's horse, Dirt Research, won the "Bareback Horse of the Year" award. Dirt is best known for his gentle demeanor when cowboys get onto his back in the chute, and for his vigorous bucking while in the arena.
