One driver was hospitalized with head injuries and another was treated and released on scene for injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 midway between Bend and Redmond on Monday afternoon, deputies reported.
According to a news release prepared by Deschutes Sheriff’s Sgt. Gary Cima, a 1976 Chevrolet pickup driven by 36-year old Shawn Francis Ellis of Redmond apparently crossed the centerline of Highway 97 near Pleasant Ridge Road as he traveled north and struck an oncoming car. Both vehicles “careened off the highway” after impact, Cima said, and came to rest on the highway’s east shoulder.
When deputies arrived on scene with Redmond Fire personnel, they found Jimmie Edwards Jr., 41, of Bend, standing by his 1985 Honda Accord and bleeding from head wounds, Cima said. He was stabilized by a responding deputy and later transported by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Redmond.
Ellis was treated and released at the crash scene, the sergeant reported.
No citations had been issued at the time of the news release, but the investigation is continuing.
