A 22-year old college student was busted late Thursday morning when drug agents raided his apartment near Central Oregon Community College and found a marijuana growing operation.

Acting on a tip, Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team members conducted a near month-long investigation into the activities of Herman Neff, a resident college student, and his rented apartment at 2642 NW Fawn Run Lane, said Bend Police Lt. John Gautney.

Detectives executed a search warrant at Neff’s apartment about 11:20 a.m., January 10, and took Neff into custody without incident at that time.  An active marijuana-growing operation with 45 pot plants was found in a bathroom and bedroom, Gautney said.  Detectives also discovered and seized packaging material, growing equipment, and a small amount of psilocybin mushrooms.

“Had all the plants grown to maturity, they could have potentially produced enough marijuana to have a conservative street value of $40,000,” Lt. Gautney said.

Neff was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail and is charged with manufacture, possession and delivery of marijuana; manufacture of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school; frequenting a place where illegal controlled substances are kept or sold; and possession of a Schedule-I controlled substance (psilocybin mushrooms).
