Bend man dies in tragic skiing accident
by Cheryl McDermott
A 27-year-old Bend man died Sunday afternoon in a downhill skiing accident when he struck a tree at nearby Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort, deputies reported.
Scott Nicholas Hackett was pronounced deceased at the scene about 12:30 p.m., January 13, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Cpl. Wayne Morgan said.
Preliminary investigation suggests Hackett was skiing with friends when he hit uneven terrain and lost control before hitting a large tree. Efforts by citizens and Mt. Bachelor Ski Patrol who attempted to revive him by performing CPR were unsuccessful, the corporal said. The incident is still under investigation.
