Fifteen children on board a Bend-La Pine school bus hit by an SUV Wednesday afternoon were unharmed, but the bus driver may have suffered an injury to her hand, deputies reported.
Deschutes County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ronny Dozier and Deputy Kevin Williams said that Stephen Ross Miller, 18, of La Pine, was backing his Nissan Pathfinder out of a residential driveway on Lost Ponderosa Road near Burgess Road in La Pine about 3:10 p.m. when he struck the school bus.
Miller and all children on board the bus were uninjured, Dozier and Williams said, but 41-year old Dana Larson, the bus driver, was transported to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend by a private vehicle for evaluation of a possible injury to her right hand.
Miller was issued a citation for unsafe backing, the deputies stated in a news release.
“Stop and look when entering the roadway from a parking lot or driveway,” they reminded.
