Car with no Headlights Causes Sisters Crash, Two Injured
by Cheryl McDermott

An 18-year old Sisters man was cited for careless driving and two people were sent to the hospital after an oncoming sports utility vehicle attempted to turn in front of his car, which was traveling without headlights on Highway 20 near Barclay Drive in Sisters on Monday evening.

The accident occurred about 8:15 p.m. on Monday, December 11, said a news release issued by Sgt. Dan Swearingen and Cpl. Wayne Morgan of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

Black Butte Police and Camp Sherman Fire Department personnel also responded to the crash, where they found the westbound lane of Highway 20 blocked.

Investigation revealed that Sisters’ resident Brian David Orlandos, 18, was driving his 1992 Geo Prizm west on Highway 20 with no headlights on, and that an oncoming 2001 Chevrolet Blazer attempted to turn left onto Barclay Drive -– directly in front of Orlandos.  Both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage in the resulting crash, said Swearingen and Morgan.

Orlandos and his passenger, 19-year old Patrick Steven Christensen of Sisters, received non-life threatening injuries and were transported by Camp Sherman Fire personnel to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

The driver of the Blazer, Robert Matthew Mate, 34; and his passenger, Linda Jo Roberts, 60; both of Sisters, were treated at the scene and released.

According to the news release, both of the SUV’s air-bags deployed, and all persons involved in the accident were wearing safety restraints.

Orlandos was cited by deputies for careless driving.
