Two Arrested in Deschutes River Woods Robbery
by Richard Burton

A Bend man and a 15-year old boy were arrested for a knifepoint robbery in the Deschutes River Woods area southeast of Bend Sunday night, said Deschutes County deputies.

Bend Police Officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1600 block of SE Tempest Drive about 9:40 p.m. December 10.  When they arrived on scene, it was determined that no stabbing had occurred, but Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies were called in after information was obtained indicating there had been a robbery outside of city limits in the Deschutes River Woods (DRW) area.

An investigation by deputies, assisted by Bend Police, found that 19-year old Matthew Jacobsen of Bend was followed by another vehicle with five subjects as he was driving from Bend to DRW.  Jacobsen stopped his vehicle at the south end of Navajo Road, got out to confront the subjects, and was approached by three males from the pursuing vehicle -– one of whom he knew.

One of the men allegedly held Jacobsen at knifepoint while a 15-year old boy, his acquaintance, removed items from his vehicle.  The suspects then drove off, fleeing the scene.

Deputies arrested 23-year old David Gonzales of Bend on charges including first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, and menacing.  He was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail.

Also arrested, said Lt. Shane Nelson in a news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office, was 15-year old Michael Woodall of Bend.  Woodall will face charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and second-degree theft.

The investigation is continuing to determine the role of the other suspects, added Lt. Nelson.
