In an accident authorities suspect may be alcohol-related, a Redmond woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday night with unknown injuries after her car left South Canal Boulevard and crashed into a tree and fence, said Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies.
About 8:40 p.m. December 12, deputies and Redmond Fire personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash with injuries on South Canal Boulevard near SW Young Avenue in Redmond.
The initial report indicated the driver, 23-year old Alaina Beth Vandergust of Redmond, was unconscious, but she was alert when emergency responders arrived, Sgt. Dan Swearingen said. The victim was stabilized by fire medical personnel and transported to St. Charles Medical Center in Redmond with unknown injuries.
Investigation suggests Vandergust’s 2003 Honda Accord was traveling north on South Canal when she lost control, ran off the road, and struck a juniper tree and fence.
The sergeant said alcohol is considered a factor in the crash, and added that it is unknown if Vandergust was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred. The investigation is continuing.
