BEND, Ore. – A new x-ray inspection system was installed today and is now operational at the Deschutes County courthouse. The added security measure is designed to enhance the current courthouse security that provides a safe environment for elected officials, court employees, case participants, and the visiting public. Per the state mandate, the Sheriff of each Oregon County is required to provide security for the county courthouse.
“You will be required to walk through a metal detector and be asked to remove all items your pockets. Anything you carry must go through the x-ray machine,” Sheriff Larry Blanton said. The Sheriff stated that a good rule to follow is if you wouldn’t take it to the airport; don’t bring it into the Deschutes County Courthouse. Following this guideline will speed up the process and prevent having to return to your vehicle to leave items not allowed inside.
The Deschutes County Courthouse is a secured building. All persons and property are subject to search. No firearms, knives, scissors, or sharp instruments, pepper spray or other objects that could be construed as weapons are allowed in the courthouse.
