BEND, Ore. – A five-year-old boy died Tuesday evening from injuries sustained in a tragic accident while playing at a rock quarry in the Tumalo area north of Bend, deputies reported.
Gabriel “Gabe” Brisbine of Sisters, Oregon, 5, and his 10-year-old brother were playing near the rock quarry at 65316 NW 93rd Street about 6:10 p.m., April 8, when the accident occurred. The boys’ parents, Lori Osborn and Sean Brisbine, were conducting business as the children played, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Captain Marc Mills said.
The boys were climbing down a slope of boulders, rocks and cinders when Gabe fell and was struck by a large boulder, a news release stated.
Family and friends immediately drove the child to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend where he later died, Mills said.
An investigation determined that the incident was the result of what the captain described as a “tragic accident,” although the District Attorney’s Office will review the case, as is policy for any death investigation.
