Andrew Michael Plunkett, 28, of Bend, was arrested and lodged in the Deschutes County Jail after his physical condition was evaluated on scene and he was released by paramedics following the crash at 7:20 p.m., May 18, a Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office news release stated.
Plunkett was charged with second-degree assault and drunk driving.
Preliminary investigation determined Plunkett was driving east on Bear Creek near Ward Road in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup when his vehicle drifted across the centerline and struck an oncoming 1999 Mercury Cougar driven by 45-year old Susan Wallace of Bend, deputies said.
Wallace was transported by Bend Fire Paramedics to St. Charles Medical Center with unknown injuries, the news release stated.
Both vehicles sustained what deputies described as substantial damage, and Bear Creek was blocked for about two hours before it was reopened to traffic.
The investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office reported.
