BEND, Ore. – The search for a suicidal man deputies believe may have jumped into the rapidly-moving water near the top of Benham Falls on the Deschutes River south of Bend, Oregon, Thursday night will continue this morning.
Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies and Search and Rescue Team members began the search around 7 p.m. after 911 Dispatch received a call from an adult male in the area who made statements about taking his own life, Lt. Erik Utter said.

After finding evidence that suggested the man had entered the water, deputies and searchers continued their efforts until they were forced to stop because of the extreme hazardous conditions and darkness, Utter said.
The search will resume Friday morning and the investigation is continuing, the lieutenant stated in a news release.
“If anyone sees any suspicious objects in or along the Deschutes River between Benham Falls and Dillon Falls, do not approach the object,” Utter asked. “Call 911 and report it immediately,” he added.
