BEND, Ore. – An ongoing investigation into heroin sales activity in Bend which began in December of last year after a backpack full of syringes, balloons and cotton swabs was left in a local bank yielded its second arrest on Monday, detectives reported.

Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) detectives took 21-year old Alexander Frederic L. Cann into custody at the Empire Business Park about 5:30 p.m., March 2, Bend Police Lt. John Gautney said.

In February, Brian Chapman Bushnell, 25, was arrested after he was connected to the backpack left at a Washington Mutual Bank branch. Undercover officers purchased $3,400 worth of heroin from him and raided his northeast Bend residence where packaging material, weight scales and a small amount of cash were discovered.

Cann was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Deschutes County Jail, the lieutenant stated in a news release. He will face charges including unlawful manufacture, delivery and possession of heroin.
