BEND, Ore. – No citations were issued to the driver that hit a pedestrian who apparently walked directly into the path of his car on a northwest Bend street Friday night, police reported.

The pedestrian, 26-year old Bend resident David J. Becker, was transported to St. Charles Medical Center with what was described as non-life threatening injuries.

Bend Police Lt. Ken Stenkamp said that police and fire medics responded to NW Hill Street and NW Greenwood Avenue about 8:45 p.m. to a reported vehicle versus pedestrian crash.

Chad Walker, 20, of Bend, had been driving a 1992 Mercedes sedan east in the inside lane of NE Greenwood Avenue when the accident occurred. Other traffic was westbound, and about 50 feet east of the intersection with NW Hill Street the pedestrian attempted to cross NW Greenwood Avenue from the north side of the road when he “walked directly into the path of Walker’s vehicle”, Stenkamp said.

The westbound traffic prevented Walker from seeing the pedestrian, the lieutenant said, adding that no citations were issued.
