Son Accused of Kidnapping, Menacing; Father of Hindering Prosecution

BEND, Ore. - Police arrested a 21-year old man Monday night who allegedly fought with and threatened his roommate with a gun, kept him against his will, and then when his victim managed to flee and seek refuge in a passing motorist's vehicle, pulled him from the vehicle before the victim ultimately escaped. The alleged kidnapper's father was also arrested, accused of taking the gun and hiding it at his home.

Bend Police Sgt. Greg Owens said officers were called to the home of Ryan Jacob Rasmussen, 21, and Cody Allen James Meiser, 18, at 923 NE 6^th Street about 7:30 p.m. to a reported fight between two men. Upon arrival, they found Meiser in an alley nearby, but Rasmussen had left in a vehicle.

Investigation led officers to believe that the two roommates were fighting inside the home when Rasmussen threatened Meiser with the gun and wouldn’t let him leave.

“Meiser was eventually able to get out of the house and flag down a passing motorist,” the sergeant said, but Rasmussen followed and “physically removed him from the car.”

Meiser was once again able to get away from Rasmussen, and the motorist called 911, the news release stated.

About an hour later officer’s found Rasmussen driving in the south part of Bend, stopped his vehicle and took him into custody without incident, Sgt. Owens said.

Further investigation turned up the handgun allegedly used in the incident, earlier hidden by Rasmussen in his home. Police said Rasmussen’s father went to the home, found the gun, and took it to his own residence at 1459 NW Jacksonville Avenue where he hid it.

Ronald Ray Rasmussen, 50, was arrested at his home. Father and son were transported to the Deschutes County Jail where they were lodged, the sergeant reported.

The younger Rasmussen will face charges of two counts of second-degree kidnapping, and menacing. The father was charged with hindering prosecution.
