BEND, Ore. – A 25-year old Bend man was arrested early Sunday morning in his younger sister’s northeast Bend townhome after she frantically called 911 and reported that he had threatened to kill her with a knife, police reported.

According to Bend Police Sgt. Andy Homan, officers were called to 1697 NE Lotus Drive #2 about 12:13 a.m., March 22, when Sarah Hendriks, 23, reported having locked herself in a bedroom after her brother threatened and menaced her with a knife. She also said that her brother would harm her if he discovered she’d called police, the news release stated.

When officers arrived and looked inside, they saw Jared Abraham Hendriks lying on the couch, but when they attempted to contact him he ran upstairs to where his sister was hiding and “tried to get at her”, Homan said.

Police, fearing for the victim and hearing her screaming for help, were forced to break down the door and enter, the

sergeant said. Officers ran upstairs where Sarah was still locked in the bathroom, and Jared fled to a nearby master bathroom where he was taken into custody. Police found two large knives in the bathroom, Sgt. Homan reported.

Jared Hendriks was transported to the Deschutes County Jail. He will face charges of menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and two outstanding warrants for his arrest – a probation violation warrant and violation of release agreement warrant.
