Bend store recalls peanut-filled trail mix
by Bend Weekly News Sources

BEND, Ore. – Due to potential Salmonella contamination, the FDA on Saturday announced the recall of a trail mix snack product sold by a Bend store that was made with peanuts from the Peanut Corporation of America. The Produce Patch distributed Cascade Trail Mix from November 1, 2008 to March 1, 2009, and packaged it in plastic zip-lock bags of various weights and sizes.

The labeling included the Produce Patch logo, product name, and list of ingredients. There was no production date or store PLU marking.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product/these products. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. The Produce Patch has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.

Consumers who have purchased Cascade Trail Mix from The Produce Patch are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact The Produce Patch at 541-306-3262. Hours of operation are Monday - Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
