DEQ proposes approval of environmental work in Bend
by Bend Weekly News Sources

Comments on Cleanup at Jack Robinson Equipment Yard due by May 1, 2009

BEND, Ore. -- The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is proposing approval of its determination that the property at 63055 O.B. Riley Road in Bend meets environmental standards. DEQ welcomes comments on the environmental proposal.

Jack Robinson and Sons Equipment Yard utilized the site for many years for storage and maintenance of its fleet of heavy construction equipment and vehicles. A hazardous waste inspection conducted in September 2004 revealed petroleum releases near the bulk fueling area, used oil storage area and other areas at the site.

Removal of approximately 6600 cubic yards of petroleum-contaminated soil from the property took place in 2005 and 2007. Low levels of petroleum-contaminated soil remain onsite.

The project file is available for review by appointment at DEQ’s Bend Office, 475 NE Bellevue Drive, Suite 110, Bend, Oregon 97701. To schedule an appointment to review the file or to ask questions, contact Marcy Kirk at (541) 633-2009.

Site summary information and staff reports are available in DEQ’s Environmental Cleanup Site Information database online under Site ID 4233.

Send written comments to Marcy Kirk, Project Manager at the above address or by email. Comments intended for consideration in DEQ’s decision are due by 5 p.m. on May 1, 2009.

DEQ will consider all public comments received before making a final decision. Upon written request by ten or more persons or by a group with a membership of ten or more, DEQ will schedule a public meeting to receive verbal comment.
