Albertsons South partners with Bend's Community Center to feed the hungry
by Bend Weekly News Sources

BEND, Ore. -- Albertsons South has donated $2,000 to Bend's Community Center (BCC) to assist with food purchases during their 8-week kitchen remodel process. The Feed the Hungry program, serving 400 - 500 meals to hungry and homeless every Sunday from 1-5 p.m., is continuing throughout the kitchen remodel process.

Taffy Gleason, director for BCC said, "We are so thankful for Albertsons generosity.  The money they donated goes toward items for the salad bar. Each Sunday, they send fresh fruits and vegetables, side dishes and fruit for lunches.  This is especially helpful since we don't have a cooler to keep donations."

The donation will go toward the 50/50 Campaign, where BCC hopes to raise $50,000 in only 50 days to complete the remodel and expansion of its 25-year old kitchen.   The campaign has nearly reached the half-way point with $25,000.

Jackie Martini, store director of Albertson's South at 61155 S. Highway 97 in Bend said, "The fight against hunger is one of Albertsons top corporate initiatives. As many families are struggling to cope during these tough economic times, it's even more important for us to provide the one resource we know most about - food."

People are also encouraged to donate their bottle and can deposits to the Feed the Hungry Program.

For more information call 541-312-2069.  Donations may also be made online.

  • My cousin Scott Youngberg lives in your area and is in need of a article (for human interest) about his struggles with cancer, heart disease and now has a liver problem from the cancer treatment. He has not been able to work for a long time and is struggling to survive economically. If you know someone that do a human interest story, or even provide some food that he is capable of eating it would be a blessing. I know this has nothing to do with what you are doing to feed the hungary, maybe it can start at their front door. They live in a big beautiful house but live in one room because the cost is to much to heat more than that. He is NOT on So So Security Disability yet they have turned him down. They have tried again do not know what the outcome will be. johnandmarian@msn.com
