Two Arrested in NE Bend meth bust
by Richard Burton

A two-month investigation into methamphetamine sales from a northeast Bend apartment culminated in a drug raid Wednesday evening, the seizure of cash and drugs, and the arrest of two men, said detectives of the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team.

Surveillance that monitored apartment C-14 of Cedarwood Townhomes at 427 NE Thurston Avenue and the suspect, Juan Rojas-Giles, 32, yielded information sufficient to obtain a search warrant, said Detective Sergeant Scott Shelton with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s office.

Sgt. Shelton, working with the drug enforcement team, said CODE detectives assisted by Bend Police officers executed the warrant about 7 p.m. January 10 and seized $1,900 in cash, in addition to about one ounce of crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $1,100.

Rojas-Giles was taken into custody and lodged at the Deschutes County Jail on charges of possession, delivery, and manufacture of a controlled substance.  Because there were several minors under the age of 18 in the apartment, Rojas-Giles also was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.

Another resident of the apartment, 21-year old Juan Carlos Ortega-Carranza, was arrested for frequenting a place where controlled substances are used.

According to Sgt. Shelton, both men are being held without bail on a federal immigration hold, with deportation possible.
